2:1 Lord God Almighty...
Big Guy Gal...
Creative breath blast we feel
You showing interest in our site
Like wind around the
World Trade Towers...
2:2 We sense you in the sludge under Manhattan
In the nineteenth century watermains...
2:3 We know you're out there somewhere
In the footlights of the universe that never sleeps...
2:4 God...you've got to be here somewhere...
Send me your godsightings, Web children!

3:1 You know as your pastor speaks into this microphone
It is so wonderful to feel beyond the flesh out to the
Web presence of so many curious websinners...
I can feel you in your flickering computer rooms
I see you on your knees at your work stattions....
4:1 God, what form will you take today?
Will you come to me in a car accident?
A simultaneous multiple orgasm?
Or an old thought....
5:1 Oh Lord I ask that you give me guidance
As I minister this service.
The great city has not been easy
For your humble servant Billy....
5:2 I'm always running, running toward some vanishing point
At the end of the street, like looking up 7th Avenue 30 blocks
Where it comes to a point, where the curbs kiss
In the dirty distance

5:3 I'm running, running up stairs
Up, up elevators up into the clouds
Trying to meet someone in the last office at the top
Where the buildings come to a vanishing point
Like vertical interstates....
6:1 I am such a foolish child, I won't stop my sinning
Tearing away at the mystery
My fascination with the edge of the world
Where the ocean monsters wait for me like
Giant slathering Christy Turlingtons
7:1 The subject of today's sermon asks the question
Why are we always scrambling toward the horizons?
7:2 Trying to get to the end of the line we're waiting in
To the end of the conversation, To the end of the hallway
To the end of the subway tunnel and into the leafy glade
And blue sky beyond....
7:3 Running up to the top of the steeple that stabs the unkown
Running toward the vanishing point at the top of the altar
Yes, clamoring up the cross and grabbing Christ by the ears
And gazing into his glowing eyes, "Christ I Can't Get A Cab!!!"
7:4 Can't get a ride....
That would pierce the veil.
8:1 We are such foolish children
We are vanishing toward that hurrying point
Like New Yorkers who can't get a cab. |
